Lie on your back, bend knees, with heels close to hips, arms down to your sides. Inhale, gently arch the back, form a slant board out of the body; contract the sphincter muscle. Keep shoulders on the floor. Maintain posture and breathe easily. Breath in the color orange. As you lower exhale slowly.
Affirmation for the Jupiter Chakra: I will increase my peace of mind with a workable philosophy.
Continuing the study of yoga’s asana practice, this month we focus on the Arch pose which correlates to the Sacral Chakra. The Sacral Chakra is located just below the belly button region.
Our chakras are the centers in the body that absorb universal energy. This life energy force is often called prana. This energy runs along paths called nadis to the nervous system, endocrine system and throughout our bloodstream to nourish the body. We stimulate the chakra system with our asana practice.
The Arch pose which correlates to the Sacral Chakra supports large intestine, pelvis, bladder, hips and lower vertebrae. Any physical dysfunction of these areas can be aided by activation of the sacral chakra. This asana benefits spine and back muscles, aids in firming legs and thighs and tones abdominal organs also.
The chakra vortexes spin very fast when stimulated and metabolize an energy frequency that can produce color. The Sacral chakra vibrates a color orange. It governs the reproductive system and the gonads. Normally the color orange is used for ambition in healing for charging the energy field, increasing sexual potency and increasing immunity.
In the emotional and mental body, this chakra correlates to our need for relationships with people as well as managing choice, attachment, creativity and money. It’s all about personal power. It enables us to generate a sense of personal identity. The sacred truth in this region is to Honor One Another.
Though there is much to learn and discover, success in yoga is possible. Be devoted to your practice. The beneficial influences will carry throughout your astral body, mind and spirit. Don’t fall victim to negativity: be steady, and mindful. Practice cheerfulness, patience and persevere.
At the same time allow all the information and development of the physical body to come at it’s own time. Don’t try to push anything. The whole body connection will continue to grow and your yoga path will develop more and more. In discovering this simple knowledge you will become strong, cheerful and healthy.Reprinted with permission from Alternatives Newspaper, New Orleans, LA. September 2004-March 2005.
